COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TRUCKS, HAND, 4 SHELVES, STAINLESS STEEL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to type II of MIL-STD-43047.
1. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
1.1 Design and construction. The truck shall consist of a frame, four shelves, four casters, and either a single peripheral bumper or four corner bumpers. The truck shall be of the knockdown type with the second and third shelves adjustable without the use of hand tools. The truck shall have a rated capacity of 800 pounds uniformly distributed over the four shelves. The shelves shall be 59-1/2 inches ± 1/2 inch long by 24-1/2 inches ± 1/2 inch wide. The overall truck length shall not exceed 61-1/2 inches and the overall truck width shall not exceed 31-1/2 inches. The overall height shall be 62 inches ± 1\2 inch. Shelf surfaces shall be flat with equally spaced slots, holes, or other openings. The truck shall be able to withstand a uniformly distributed static load of 1000 pounds for ten minutes without weld failure, parts separation, metal tearing breakage, or noticeable permanent deformation. In addition, the truck, uniformly loaded with 800 pounds, shall be capable of being rolled over a 1/8-inch obstacle at the rate of 2 miles per hour without any of the deficiencies noted above.
1.2 Materials and components. The truck shall be fabricated from 300 series stainless steel. Threaded fasteners shall be stainless steel, nickel plated carbon steel or chromium plated carbon steel.
1.2.1 Casters. All four casters shall be of the swivel type and shall be a minimum of 5 inches in diameter. All wheel treads shall be made from a vinyl or rubber-like material that will provide quiet operation on hard surfaces.
1.2.2 Bumpers. Trucks shall be equipped with a bumper or bumpers to protect walls from impact in any direction. Bumpers shall be capable of being replaced and shall be made from a resilient nonmarking material. Two caster wheels shall be provided with locking type brakes.
1.3 Codes and standards. The hand trucks shall conform to the requirements of National Sanitation Foundation Standard No. 2.
