2.2.6 Each roller shall have a minimum diameter of 2.5 inches and a minimum capacity of 400 pounds.
2.2.7 The distance between the centerlines of the rollers shall be 10 inches maximum.
2.2.8 The lateral roller spacing shall be 20 inches maximum to accommodate the walkway between the
rollers.
2.2.9 The deck shall be manually rotatable 360 degrees. Deck rotation stops shall be provided every 180
degrees to facilitate correct positioning for loading/offloading from either side.
2.2.10 The running gear shall be completely within the confines of the trailer frame. All steering
linkages, brake system components, or other mechanisms located beneath the trader, shall be protected
from damage. The running gear shall be capable of 15 mph operation when part of a trailer train or when
towed singly.
2.2.11 The steering shall be of the four-wheel-coordinated type, using the towbar to control the direction
of wheel turn.
2.2.12 The towbar shall be of sufficient length to prevent the corners of each trader in a trailer train from
contacting during the minimum turning radius. The towbar shall be fitted with a MS51336 lunette eye or
similar lunette which is compatible with an MS51335 pintle hook.
2.2.13 The trailer shall have a towbar-actuated parking brakes on two front wheels. The parking brakes
shall be of the internal expanding type drum brakes.
2.2.14 The trailer shall be equipped with wheels and tires which meet all Tire and Rim Association or
European Tyre and Rim Technical Organization requirements for this application. The trailer shall be
equipped with pneumatic, tubeless tires mounted on remountable rims.
2.2.15 A MS51335 pintle hook or similar pintle hook shall be mounted on the rear of the trailer in order
to connect the towbar of the following trailer when operating in a train.
2.2.16 The trailer shall be painted Forest Green, Color Number 24052 of FED-STD-595 or the
contractor's closest commercial equivalent. The paint shall be a polyurethane paint. All outer surfaces
shall be painted and all exterior items (such as wheels, wheel covers, and bumpers) shall be painted,
3. REGULATORY RETIREMENTS:
3.1 The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-
580 to the maximum extent possible.
3.1.1 For the purpose of this requirement, recovered materials are those materials which have been
collected from solid waste and reprocessed to become a source of raw materials, as distinguished from
virgin raw materials. The components, pieces and parts incorporated in the trailer(s) maybe newly
fabricated from recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, provided the trader(s) produced
meets all other requirements of this CID. Used, rebuilt, or remanufactured components, pieces and parts,
shall not be incorporated.
